Ever since the WWE revealed itself to be "scripted," they started to structure themselves as a "sports entertainment" product in which the entertainment bit would slowly trump the actual wrestling in the company. WWE started to establish itself as a "brand" of wrestling rather than an actual promotion, and like every self-conscious brand, the WWE also likes to keep its image clean as a whistle. These Divas often undergo a change after leaving the company, which makes them almost unrecognizable, and with social media becoming bigger with every passing year, these women don't shy away from posting pictures of their current state online.
Sex sells and WWE knows this subject very well. The year brings in an era of the modern Diva. While there were women wrestling or women as managers, the new age Divas finally appeared. But the roles of the Divas as sex symbols have changed drastically from that time. Many Divas have posed nude either before or during there time in WWE.
We kind of have to face it, without women, professional wrestling would just be sweaty, musclebound dudes in tight costumes pretending to wail on each other and performing acrobatic stunts. There would still be the athleticism and some of the story lines, but at the same time, wrestling would lack an element of sex appeal for the majority of the audience. The popularity of women in wrestling, and especially the Divas in WWE have gone through the roof in recent years and we can see why.
